Bateira Caçadeira
It is in the Port of Abrigo (Shelter) of Torreira that I have my hunting rifle, which I use for fishing. However, in other times, this small boat was actually used for hunting, hence its name.
When I was little, I always went with my father, when he went hunting for waterfowl, especially wild ducks, which hid among the navies. We also fished for eels with a shotgun, with a shotgun or with a slingshot.
The Caçadeira is very versatile, it can be used in many ways and, as it is narrow and small, it fits in any part of the lagoon.
Narrow and with a lot of vegetation so that we could hide without making noise or being seen. The wait could be long, we just had to wait for the right moment to catch our prey.
My father always had the drums painted black, as per tradition. Currently, the Caçadeiras are colorful and, when together in the shelter, they offer a bright and picturesque image to the place.
The most recent Caçadeiras are 7 to 8 meters long, but my father's was only 5 meters long. Most of the fishing boats moored at our piers today are Caçadeiras, making this the most common vessel in the lagoon.
Some are larger, others smaller, they all fulfill their function: day-to-day work day to the Sunday tour, without forgetting participation in the regattas, where our boats sail again as they used to.
